Cardinals and Rangers…Play with the Rain

By A.len.

Wednesday rain took the Rangers and Cardinals by surprise, so their duel was postponed for Thursday to meet at 8pm. The Rangers have a crucial advantage over the Cardinals that could change drastically due to the effects of playing a day after. This rain seems to be a non-stop nuisance, but of these two teams, which one could be more affected by it?

In a way, I shouldn't be talking about rain and how they will affect the baseball series when there are a lot of people suffering by more serious problems concerning this rainy days; not that I do not care, but this is an article of Baseball or at least I'm trying to make it be. So, let's discuss in these matters; and how much they could affect the results for these two teams. After all, it may be favorable for the Cardinals and awfully awkward for the Rangers or may have the inverse effect. In any of the two cases it will affect.

Some physics' first: Things are going to turn heavier, the visibility will be hampered, and the mobility will be more difficult. Now lets include the sound of the rain falling, the noise of the crowd and all the procedures will be slow. Conditions will change, and will change so much that can affect everything that happens on the field.

The truth is that non of these guys are waterproof, and the rain wouldn't favor anybody, so both teams will be affected, however there is the small advantage of the Rangers holding 3 2 and leading the best of seven Series, but the resting could give an edge to the Cardinals who have 2 3 to get paired. This rain is going to change the odds by many factors for the two. The postponing can be count like an extra day for resting for both teams, so both managers will have every man at their disposal at the end, from stacked bullpens to ace starters.

Thanks to the rain, the chances of developing a new strategy to improve the Cardinal's results may flourish in the next match (Game 7) with some major changes, depending on how they performed on Thursday. Tony La Russa has been keeping their plans in secret for Game 7, but for Game 6 he quoted that he won't be using Carpenter unless he became the last chance, so prefers to keep him well rested. At the Rangers side; Ron Washington seems to be sticking to his original plans with Matt Harrison, a move that has been proved to be very effective since the beginning of the year; so there is no point in making any changes now, the only difference is that they are well supplied for Game 7 too as a result for the obligated rest due to the rain.

Whenever the changes, the Rangers are confident on dealing with a restored Cardinals' team ready to take all the chances and take advantage of every gap they could find to keep on the fight. Game 6 will be decisive for the Cards, if they could beat the Rangers who also have all their resources at maximum too, they may increase their chances to win Game 7 with new strategy not revealed yet. Both managers say this delay won't affect the results at all, but an extra day can make a huge difference and change every result previously expected.
