A few days ago, the new stars for the hall of fame were named; 3 players and 3 coaches will be part of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame's 2011. Among these honored persons are Dennis Rodman, Chris Mullin, Tara VanDerveer and Tex Winter.
Rodman is famous for his strong and fierce defensive skills at the court; and a star of the newspapers headlines when his erratic behavior mentioned. He started with the Detroit Pistons, and later was part of huge teams like San Antonio Spurs, The Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks. He also has been honored with the Defensive Player of the Year two times and is a five times NBA Champion.
The honor was a surprising event for the Basketball star who took a notice for an April's fool prank. In fact, he thought that the voters wouldn't ignore his past full of extravagances and craziness and they will forfeit the values of his career as one of the best rebounders in the league history. However, he has to got his way on Monday, while the others honored wore their suits for this occasion, Rodman came in sneakers, jeans, and a leopard and tan scarves, and an unbuttoned white shirt.
This is the second time Chris Mullin step into the induction ceremonies. He was a five All-Star and St. John's lead scorer. Mullin made and 18.2 PPG, and achieved 17,911 points, and 1,530 steals. He was skilled and could go to left or right and shoot with either hand. During his NBA career; Mullin played for the Golden Stated Warriors, and Indiana Pacers. Right now, Mullin is an NBA analyst for ESPN.
Tara VanDerveer played for Indiana University in 1972 to 1975; and started coaching in 1978. Since then she has been in guiding the teams of various universities, among these are the University of Idaho, Ohio State University, Stanford University, and the U.S. Olympic Team 1995 96.
For the veteran coach, the announcement this past Monday was a mix of joy and sadness. Her team lost on Sunday night; but for her being in the Naismith is an incredible honor. She felt overwhelmed. VanDerveer commented that getting into the Hall of Fame is the Ultimate compliment for a coach or a player. VanDerveer has 800 victories on her account, and is one of the sixth women to have reached this achievement.
Morice Fredrick "Tex" Winter is the mastermind behind the triangle offense. His career as a head coach started in 1951 for the Marquette University; and being the youngest coach in a major college basketball team. Later in 1972 he became the head coach of Houston Rockets for two seasons and posted a score of 51 78 record. In 1985 Winters served as assistant coach with the Chicago Bulls. His participation with Chicago and his famous triangle offense were an important part of the Bull's championships until 1998. Winters later moved to work with Los Angels Lakers, and adding three more championships to his career. Winter is part of some Halls of fame, and the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame isn't an exception anymore. With their different lives styles and careers, each of these persons has changed the history of the Basketball in some ways that deserve to be remembered and their presence and records will become a legacy for those who still don't know.
